A Lost Lamb in a New Environment Meets with [X]. (かの新天地に迷える子羊は [X]と 邂逅する, kano shintenchi ni mayoeru kohitsuji wa [X] to kaikō suru.?) is the tenth episode of the We Never Learn anime series.
Synopsis[]
It's summer break and Nariyuki reflects on all of the things that can be done during that time. However, he attends a summer term short course that's all paid for by his school for being a tutor. There he meets a young girl whose appearance resembles that of a middle school girl. As it turns out, her name is Asumi and she's her senior who has failed the entrance exam the first time. Her goal is to pass the exam and attend a national medical school. Afterward, Nariyuki laments on how fast the class is and can't keep up with it. So, Asumi gives him her notes for him to copy. Toward the end of the day, Nariyuki and Asumi talk about how tough the summer prep courses can be.
Once the class was over, Nariyuki leaves while regretting not being able to properly apologize to Asumi for his misbehavior that day. While getting lost on trying to find the way to the train station, two men promoting a place called High Stage rope him into visiting there. It's there he runs into Asumi who also works there as one of the maids. Asumi's co-workers reveal that she works there because she uses the money to pay the tuition for her prep-school and med school. Also, she's the most popular maid at the cafe and has worked there the longest. Right, when Nariyuki tries to leave, he sees the results to a mock science exam Asumi took that reveals she flunked them. So, Nariyuki then tutors her on the subject and her co-workers get a nasty idea.
The following day, to Asumi's astonishment, Nariyuki was invited back there to continue tutoring Asumi for free drinks there. Although Asumi initially protests this, days later it's noted by her co-workers that she's gotten a lot out of tutoring with Nariyuki. After their tutoring for the day is over, so Asumi could serve the influx of costumers, Nariyuki leaves and on his way home bumps into someone. The man that was bumped into notices that the book Nariyuki was reading was the same prep school his daughter attends. Just then, Asumi arrives on the scene with Nariyuki's train pass that he forgot back at the cafe. The man is then revealed to be Asumi's father Soujiro Kominami.
At the Kominami Clinic, Soujiro briefly talks about his humble clinic and then rebukes his daughter Asumi for her job choice to pay for her prep school tuition. This leads to Asumi to lie about her job, claiming that she doesn't work at a shady maid cafe, but its something her "boyfriend" Nariyuki likes her to wear. Nariyuki then gives a muddled excuse about how she tries in earnest to be able to attend med school. Hearing this, Soujiro admonishes the thought of Asumi trying to attend med school for his sake and to follow her a path of study that suits her. This leads to a heated argument between the two and Nariyuki mediates the situation with some a moving speech about his belief that Asumi can succeed. Although he appears to be upset about the speech, Soujiro agrees to allow Asumi to continue with her studies for the time being. Days later, the two meet up again at a family restaurant and Asumi is introduced to Rizu, Fumino, and Uruka and take an instant liking to Asumi.
Even more days later, it's revealed that the girls have also signed up for the prep-courses as well. They are, however taking different courses than Nariyuki and Asumi. Although Nariyuki is elated by the girls striving to be independent by their tutoring studies with him. They're all flustered by the pace of their respective classes. On their way home from the prep-school course, it starts pouring rain. So, Asumi invites them all to her home where they dry off. A scene occurs where Nariyuki is able to see through Uruka's clothing and is able to see the new bra that she's wearing. While this is going on, Fumino thanks Soujiro for the towels he lent them all. Soujiro thinks nothing of it and mentions that Nariyuki is Asumi's boyfriend. In light of this, Fumino personally reprimands Nariyuki and he explains the situation behind it to her, and Asumi corroborates it. During her explanation, Asumi suspects that Fumino has feelings for Nariyuki.
Days afterward at the High Stage, Nariyuki studies there and Asumi inquires which of the girls that he tutors he likes the most. He refuses to answer as his primary focus is the entrance exam, however, she then asks what about after the exams. Nariyuki then ruminates on the thought and Asumi serves him an omelet with a nasty note written on it.
